Downtown Litchfield is blanketed in snowfall Thursday morning.

More snowfall and subzero wind chills are expected through Friday evening.

The National Weather Services advises residents of Litchfield of dangerously cold wind chills through Friday.

A winter storm warning is still in effect for Meeker and McLeod counties, expanding to include Gaylord, Dassel, Clearwater, St. Cloud, Milaca and Mora. This includes the Twin Cities metro area through midnight tonight.

Outside the winter storm warning, a winter weather advisory remains in effect for the remainder of central and southern Minnesota through midnight tonight. Snowfall totals as the storm ends tonight will average between 2-5 inches across the winter weather advisory and blizzard warning areas before it tapers off later today.

Dangerous wind chills will accompany system

A wind chill warning is effective tonight through Friday morning for locations along and west of Redwood Falls, to Litchfield, to Little Falls. Residents of these areas should expect snow and blowing snow. Dangerously cold wind chills as low as -40 degrees expected.

The National Weather Services advises residents to plan for slippery road conditions as patchy blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility. The dangerously cold wind chills could cause frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 10 minutes.
