Hutchinson Chamber of Commerce and Tourism President Mary Hodson received recognition from her peers as the 2023 Star of the North during the recent MCCE conference.
The Star of the North honors a chamber executive who innovates, creates change, influences and/or meets adversity. Hodson received the award Feb. 13 during the annual recognition portion of the Minnesota Chamber of Commerce Executives annual meeting.
“The board of directors, staff and volunteers really make the chamber what it is," Hodson said. "This isn’t about one person and it never is. This award is a reflection of our strong organization and our collaborative community.”
Hutchinson Chamber and Tourism's Board of Directors cited Hodson’s work as an advocate for businesses while also starting the Hutchinson Child Care Coalition, SCORE branch, and leading pARTicipate Hutchinson: the community mural project, in addition to her usual chamber work. The anonymous nomination also noted Hodson’s mentoring several other chamber executives.
Dr. Adam Fink, board chair, also noted Hodson’s final year as the Chamber President is already a flurry of activity, including a second year of murals, launching the SCORE branch, finishing the second Hutchinson book for the foundation, while continuing to advocate for businesses after a challenging legislative year. Hodson’s departure is planned for year end.
“Mary is allowing us the time to find the right person for the executive position, and keep the chamber’s forward momentum going.” Fink said the work of the chamber continues as usual as the board prepares for the transition.
