James "Jim" DuHamel Jr., 64, of Coon Rapids, formerly of Hutchinson, died Nov. 24. Celebration of life open house will be 1-3 p.m., Sunday, April 21, at the McLeod County Fairgrounds Commercial Building meeting room. A short program will occur at 2 p.m.
Jim was born April 27, 1957, in Hutchinson to James and Ivanelle (Elwell) DuHamel Sr. Jim graduated in 1975 from Hutchinson High School. He was active in Hutchinson Tigers sports as a football quarterback, basketball guard and baseball pitcher. He was also active in summer baseball and enjoyed fishing, camping and hunting with family. Jim graduated in 1981 from Bemidji State University where he earned a bachelor’s degree in education and pitched in baseball for the Beavers.
In 1981, Jim married Lisa Caverley. Their marriage was blessed with two daughters, Bree and Tia. Jim worked various jobs before becoming the proud owner and president of Advantage Printing Resources in 2005. He also worked full-time for Life Fitness. Spending time at his family cabin was Jim’s favorite happy place, either alone or especially with family. He enjoyed teaching his four grandsons how to fish and enjoyed gardening, joking around, cheering on family in sports, and watching the Minnesota Wild and Twins.
Jim passed away with COVID. He is survived by his wife, Lisa; daughters Bree DuHamel and Mike Kopesky of Blaine, and Tia DuHamel of Andover; grandsons Blake, Gavin, Connor and Greyson; mother Ivanelle Curtiss of Hutchinson; step-mother Barb DuHamel of Fall River, Wisconsin; sisters Marshelle DuHamel of North St. Paul, Lanette (Steve) Brown of St. Cloud, Janet (Steve) Meier of Hutchinson; and brother, Troy (Destiny) DuHamel; several nephews and nieces and their spouses; father-in-law, Bill Caverley; one sister-in-law and family.
Jim was preceded in death by his father, James DuHamel Sr.; grandparents; mother-in-law, Donna Caverley; brother-in-law, Kent Caverley.
