David Vernon Laine, 74, passed away March 9, at his home in Hutchinson. Funeral will be noon-2 p.m. Tuesday, April 30, at Hutchinson Event Center, 1005 Highway 15 S. Plaza 15 in Hutchinson.

David was born April 2, 1950, in Minneapolis. He was adopted by Casper and Alice “Kate” Laine (nee DeMars). David was an only child. He received his education in Bovey/Grand Rapids school system and graduated in 1969.

David entered the United States Navy on Nov. 4, 1969, as a medical field technician and received an honorable discharge Aug. 12, 1975.

On Jan. 14, 1979, David was united in marriage to Marilyn Pernar. A few years later, David adopted his son, Adam, and that was the start of their family. They started their lives together outside of Nashwauk and later moved to Hutchinson to make their home.

David worked in the Butler taconite mines in Nashwauk from 1976 until 1984. The last job before his retirement was at D. S. Smith in Lester Prairie.

David had a fondness for animals, especially dogs, and adopted a number of them. For more than 20 years, David enjoyed volunteering at the Heart of Minnesota Animal Shelter in Hutchinson. David often would adopt senior dogs to give them a good home in their twilight years.

He is survived by his wife, Marilyn Laine; and son, Adam Laine.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Casper and Alice “Kate” Laine.
