More than 13,000 voters took to the polls in Meeker County to vote in the primary election Tuesday. The following results are for state and federal races.
STATE RACES
The following results reflect 30 of 30 Meeker County precincts reporting.
In the primary race to run on the Republican ticket for governor:
- Jeff Johnson has 824 Meeker County votes (55 percent)
- Tim Pawlenty has 613 votes (41 percent)
- Mathew Kruse has 52 votes (4 percent)
Jeff Johnson won the state primary with 52 percent of the vote.
In the primary race to run on the Democrat ticket for governor:
- Tim Walz has 540 Meeker County votes (46 percent)
- Lori Swanson has 410 votes (35 percent)
- Erin Murphy has 199 votes (17 percent)
- Tim Holden has 12 votes (1 percent)
- Ole Savior has 10 votes
Tim Walz won the state primary with 41 percent of the vote.
In the primary race to run on the Republican ticket for Minnesota attorney general:
- Doug Wardlow has 595 Meeker County votes (43 percent)
- Sharon Anderson has 554 votes (40 percent)
- Robert Lessard has 230 votes (17 percent)
Doug Wardlow won the state primary with 46 percent of the vote.
In the primary race to run on the Democrat ticket for Minnesota attorney general:
- Keith Ellison has 521 Meeker County votes (46 percent)
- Debra Hilstrom has 272 votes (24 percent)
- Tom Foley has 167 votes (15 percent)
- Matt Pelikan has 83 votes (7 percent)
- Mike Rothman has 79 votes (7 percent)
Keith Ellison won the state primary with 50 percent of the vote.
In the primary race to challenge Minnesota House District 18A Representative Dean Urdahl on the Democrat ticket:
- Justin Vold has 663 votes (66 percent)
- Robert Wright has 346 votes (34 percent)
Justin Vold won the district primary with 63 percent of the vote. Urdahl had no Republican challengers, and will appear on the November ballot.
FEDERAL RACES
The following results reflect 30 of 30 Meeker County precincts reporting.
In the primary race to run on the Republican ticket for the U.S. Senate seat currently held by Amy Klobuchar:
- Jim Newberger has 999 Meeker County votes (73 percent)
- Merrill Anderson has 211 votes (15 percent)
- Rae Hart Anderson has 105 votes (8 percent)
- Roque "Rocky" De La Fuente has 57 votes (4 percent)
Jim Newberger won the state primary with 69 percent of the vote.
In the primary race to run on the Democrat ticket for the U.S. Senate seat currently held by Amy Klobuchar:
- Amy Klobuchar has 1,116 Meeker County votes (95 percent)
- Steve Carlson has 21 votes (2 percent)
- Stephen Emery has 18 votes (1 percent)
- Leonard Richards has 11 votes
- David Robert Groves has 7 votes
Amy Klobuchar won the state primary with 95 percent of the vote.
In the primary race to run on the Republican ticket for the U.S. Senate seat formerly held by Al Franken, now in a special election for a two-year term:
- Karin Housley has 810 Meeker County votes (58 percent)
- Bob Anderson has 557 votes (40 percent)
- Nikolay Nikolayevich Bey has 22 votes (2 percent)
Karin Housley won the state primary with 62 percent of the vote.
In the primary race to run on the Democrat ticket for the U.S. Senate seat formerly held by Al Franken, now in a special election for a two-year term:
- Tina Smith has 882 Meeker County votes (77 percent)
- Richard Painter has 159 votes (13 percent)
- Gregg Iverson has 52 votes (5 percent)
- Nick Leonard has 28 votes (2 percent)
- Ali Chechem Ali has 11 votes (1 percent)
- Christopher Lovell Seymore Sr. has 11 votes (1 percent)
Tina Smith won the state primary with 76 percent of the vote.
In the primary race to run on the Republican ticket for Minnesota's Seventh U.S. Congressional District Seat currently held by Collin Peterson:
- Dave Hughes has 1,042 Meeker County votes (76 percent)
- Matt Prosch has 322 votes (23 percent)
Dave Hughes won the state primary with 72 percent of the vote. Peterson had no Democrat challengers, and will appear on the November ballot.
Results are not official until votes are canvassed.
