Parade-goers had a ball in Darwin Saturday afternoon — most noticeably a group of costumed women who were "shaking it" for the crowd.

Humoring spectators, a float dubbed "Grannies Gone Wild," cruised down main street during Darwin's annual Twine Ball celebration. Their float also read "Happy Twine Ball Day."

Dressed as grannies with stage names, Kathy Melbostad as "Velda," Barb Kaiser as "Elvina," Teresa Hase as "Gerdy" and Jody Dorschner as "Agnes" got their groove on. Their costumes featured old-fashioned "grandma-style" dresses, "granny glasses," canes, a walker and exaggerated behinds.

"This was something to cross off the bucket list," Kaiser said with a laugh.

The "Grannies Gone Wild" are four longtime friends from La Crescent, Minnesota, near Winona, whose friendship began when their sons played baseball together.

Last year, the boisterous gals visited Darwin, including its infamous tavern, and performed what they called a "flash mob" dance. Every year, they do"something fun — and a little on the wild side — near their summer vacation spot, which this year happened to be Lake Washington, near Darwin.

The end result is always a lot of laughter.

While posing for a group photo, one member of the granny gang asked, "Hows my badunkadunk?" (Defined By UrbanDictionary as a "dynamic booty that defies the laws of physics.")

Two of their husbands, sporting the nicknames "Darius" and "Juan Pablo" were their inaugural Twine Ball parade chauffeurs.

Laughing, the men said they prefer to remain anonymous.
