I have enjoyed working as a reporter for the Litchfield Independent Review — serving the Meeker and McLeod county residents for one year — but the time has come to say goodbye.

It was around April 1 when I moved back to California to be close to my family during the coronavirus pandemic. Currently, I am in Modesto, California, where I grew up for the better part of my teenage years, and where my mother and two siblings live.

The connections, friendships and acquaintances I’ve established in Litchfield have truly made it feel like my home. Communicating with city and school district officials and community members made me feel like I’ve lived in this town for many, many years.

Working with Brent Schacherer, my amazing boss, has been a blessing. I want to personally thank Brent for all the times he had to put up with my infinite questions about my job functions, politics, religion and others. The moments I shared with Brent are unforgettable and difficult to describe. He helped me improve my writing and reporting skills, of which I am very grateful.

Living and working in Litchfield taught me that the people — no matter what their political or religious views — are concerned for the wellbeing and future of their nation, the United States of America.

I learned that being confrontational is an instinct we have within us that we manifest during times when our views are attacked, especially in toxic environments where there are none who are willing to lend an ear. But as a journalist, I learned when I lent an ear to differing views, people opened up and shared ideas that were real and worth hearing.

It is difficult and sad for me to say goodbye, because I was planning to work in Litchfield for many more years. The coronavirus pandemic changed all our lives. People have had to make drastic, immediate choices, like me having to leave Litchfield on such short notice.

Now, after I made my journey back to California, I am not sure what my future holds. I would like to continue my news reporting work and continue learning about different communities and people.

I would like to officially say goodbye to you all and thank you for sharing your stories and views with me. I will never forget my experience with you all, and I wish you a good and healthy and long life.
