From faded brown to bold yellow and red, the marquee at the Hollywood Theatre in downtown Litchfield is being enhanced this week.

The "Hollywood" sign, which was beginning to fade, got a new paint job. Owner Peter Schoell climbed a tall ladder perched on the awning at the entrance of the historic movie theater on Sibley Avenue. Schoell had to climb several feet above ground to apply the new ketchup and mustard colors, starting with the letter H and working his way down.

As of Thursday evening, close to half of the sign has been completed.

Schnell chose a pleasant day weather-wise to start the project. Afternoon temperatures averaged 72 degrees with calm winds.

The only remaining indoor movie theater in Meeker County, the Hollywood Theatre was built in 1936. The town staple is known for its art-deco design.
