Hutchinson City Center

Hutchinson City Center is the central location for many city services. It hosts the Hutchinson City Council meeting at 5:30 p.m. on the second and fourth Tuesday of each month. On the second Monday of each month it also hosts the Hutchinson School Board.

BURICH ARENA: Approved using facility committee funds to purchase new dasher boards for the east rink at Burich Arena at a cost of $252,300. The city’s facility committee approved the plan to replace the boards this year. The current dasher boards are over 27 years old and have exceeded their 20-year life expectancy. A verbal agreement between the city and Hutchinson Hockey Association to pay $3,000 for the additional cost of the drink rail on the east side of the rink. City staff decided to go with a full backer panel on the outside to maintain a cleaner look, prevent debris from entering the anchoring area, and make cleaning easier. Installation will take place after the spring ice and turf season ends this year.

DONATION: Approved a $2,000 donation from Village Ranch to Hutchinson Police Department for equipment purchase.

GAMBLING: Approved a short-term gambling license to McLeod County Pheasants Forever for March 9 at the McLeod County Fairgrounds. Also approved a short-term gambling license to the Hutchinson Rotary Foundation for April 11 at Art’s Place.

LICENSE: Approved a taxi license of Matt Reed for Quality Transportation.

DEPOSITORIES: Approved a resolution of designation of depositories of city funds in commercial banks and financial institutions. Per state law, the city must annually designate its commercial banks as approved depositories for city funds and investments. Citizens Bank and Trust was selected as the local institution. Wells Fargo Advisors and Oppenheimer & Co were selected as the city’s investment brokers, both based in Minneapolis.

APPOINTMENTS: Made three appointments to boards and commissions. Ced Steinkraus was appointed to the Senior Advisory Board to January 2027. Jody Stoffels was appointed to Senior Advisory Board to January 2027. Mike McGraw was reappointed to the Economic Development Authority Board to December 2029.
