police patch

The Hutchinson Police Department on Wednesday said it has received a report of an alleged human trafficking attempt at Walmart, but after further investigation concluded there was no suspicious activity.

On Monday, a Facebook user posted to Real Life in Hutchinson, an unofficial community page on the social media website, a copied and pasted anonymous claim that a man driving a white GMC may be attempting to abduct and traffic young women.

According to Lt. Tom Gifferson, the post's original writer reported the incident. A review of Walmart's CCTV footage revealed to police that no suspicious activity had occurred.

"With the help of Walmart, we were able to determine that it was a misunderstanding," he said. "We don't believe there is any threat to the public at this time. We're encouraging people to remain vigilant, and if they suspect something, they should call the police department right away so that we can investigate in a quick manner."
