David James Venske

A Winsted man faces felony charges for soliciting sex from a minor, according to the McLeod County Sheriff's office.

Police arrested David James Venske, 27, at a Cenex gas station in Glencoe at 10:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 23, as he attempted to meet with a fake 15-year-old named Katy, whom he met online.

Wisconsin nonprofit Worldwide Predator Hunters created a fake dating profile to attract predators. Venske and the account corresponded from Oct. 12 to 23, during which the fake account told Venske she was 15 and lived in Glencoe.

Venske allegedly sent messages to the account saying he intended to have sex with the underage girl. He also allegedly sent a photograph of his genitals.

Upon his arrest, Venske allegedly admitted to his intent to have intercourse, according to the criminal complaint.

Venske's charges include attempted third-degree sexual misconduct, two counts of electronically soliciting children to engage in sexual conduct and two counts of soliciting children to engage in sexual conduct.
