The National Weather Service has upgraded the winter weather advisory to a winter storm warning in effect until midnight tonight. A wind chill advisory is in effect from midnight tonight to noon Friday, Feb. 8.
Expect accumulations of 3 to 5 inches of snow, winds gusting as high as 35 mph, wind chills as low as 35 below zero. Plan on slipper road conditions, patchy blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility. These hazardous conditions will impact the evening commute.
Dress warm if you are going outdoors. The dangerously cold wind chills could cause frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 10 minutes.
If you must travel, pack an extra flashlight, food, water, blankets and a charged mobile phone in case of an emergency. For the latest road conditions, visit 511mn.org.
