Marvin E. Martinson, 89, of Bloomington, passed away peacefully Feb. 25. Memorial service is at 11 a.m., Thursday, March 14, at First Lutheran Church in Litchfield, with visitation one hour prior. Inurnment at Lake Ripley Cemetery.

Marvin was born on Aug. 16, 1934, to Marcellus and Florence Martinson in Grove City. He excelled at basketball while playing for the Grove City Eagles, graduating in 1952. Marvin went on to join the Navy, and after his discharge moved to Minneapolis. He married Marlys Rathke, at St Paul’s Lutheran Church in Litchfield, on Sept. 6, 1959. They shared 64 years of marriage.

Marvin had a long career working for Great Northern Railroad, retiring after 42 years. He enjoyed playing cards and was an avid sports fan, holding season tickets to the Minnesota Vikings and Gophers basketball. His study of sports statistics was a testament to his analytical mind. He was always eager to share his insights about the sports world.

He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and brother and will be deeply missed.

Marvin was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his wife, Marlys; sons, Wayne (Mamie), Kevin (Kristine); sister Mardelle “Mardi”; grandchildren, Erin (Zach), Gregory (Amy), Dominic (Roberta), Matthew (Nicole), Nathan, Andrew, Anna, Maria; eight great-grandchildren.
