For more than 17 years, From the Kitchen at Cricket Meadow has chronicled the splendor of country living.

Since 2000, Julianne Johnson has shared her love of cooking, baking, family, friends and farm memories in her bi-weekly column on the right side of this page.

Julie’s mouth-watering food and drink recipes, from simple country classics to decadent desserts, are only part of what made her column special. In this fast-paced, technology driven world — too often consumed with negativity — her writings produced feelings of nostalgia and joy. They reminded us to seek life’s simple pleasures and to embrace our rural lifestyle. Her recipes and narratives were cleverly woven into a common theme. I’ll miss her creative recipe titles.

The Independent Review thanks Juli for the hundreds of writings she has submitted for the enjoyment and inspiration of our readers. Her dedication to rural living and to the farm table will be missed. We wish her the best in her future endeavors.

Bev Barrett, who has also written a recipe column since 2000, continues to write for the Independent Review. We continue to be grateful for her contributions.
