Writing letter to editor

To the Editor:

The Litchfield Area Chamber of Commerce received an anonymous letter in the mail today. Typically, anonymous letters are thrown away in my world. If you can not own up to your criticism and help be the solution, I don’t even consider it.

With this letter and copy of an advertisement from the Hutchinson area, I feel the need to respond. As there was no name, I would like to respond to all in hopes our anonymous friend will read this.

The author of this criticism says:

“What’s Litch doing besides kids house in the park, really sad, get with it no shopping downtown, get off your butts.”

My response: Hutchinson has had a lodging tax for several years which has produced dollars to promote activities and events during the holiday season and throughout the year. Thank you to our Litchfield City Council for implementing the lodging tax in Litchfield, we look forward to great events and promotion of Litchfield in the coming years.

I would like to give a brief list of events and holiday gatherings that come to mind, that have been available right here in our area:

Forest City Stockade family Christmas, Holiday Singer showcase, First Lutheran Church held a Breakfast with Santa, ReMax and State Farm are hosting Free Saturday matinees for four weeks, Kinsella has the Santa Semi coming with treats, Walmart hosted Santa for a day etc. The Litchfield Area Chamber of Commerce sponsored the Get Wrapped Up shop local promotion where 29 businesses promoted shopping local. $2,000 has been given away to shoppers in town as a result of this promotion. Great events and promotions are happening in our town.

As we look forward to having promotional dollars available, I invite the community to join in and be the solution to make this community an inviting place to Live Work and Play.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year from the Litchfield Area Chamber of Commerce.
