Gregg Zender, the longtime Lake Ripley Elementary principal, is set to retire next summer.

The Litchfield School Board accepted his resignation at their meeting June 25. Zender will retire after the 2018-19 school year. Zender has held the position for 25 years.

According to Superintendent Beckie Simenson, Zender was “adamant” about sending out his announcement prior to the school board meeting so the school staff wouldn’t wait to hear the news. Zender’s announcement followed the board’s recognition of Cheryl Loge, who has wrapped up her career as the middle school social worker, student council adviser and Knowledge Bowl coach.

“I would like to thank Cheryl Loge and Gregg Zender for their years to the Litchfield School District,” Board Chairman Darrin Anderson said. “We wish them well in their future endeavors.”
