Ellery Jones remembers Miss Litchfield royalty reading to her kindergarten class. Now a Litchfield Princess herself, that memory has turned to action.
Jones chose to help preschoolers at Wagner Early Education Building as part of her volunteer platform. Jones’ aunt, Hannah Barrick, is a preschool teacher at Wagner, which is why she easily plugged right in, she said.
“So I’m here at the preschool today to read,” Jones said Thursday, where she was read “Snowmen at Night” to students.
“I read this book when I was little,” Jones added. “My parents would read it to me around the holiday season, so I remember this book, and it’s just a cute one. It’s like the magic behind Santa Claus. This is magic behind snowmen, like what they do at night when you’re not watching.”
Her chaperone, Jennie Smith, said after Jones finished reading to students, she would donate the books to each classroom.
“I think it’s important because having a good role model when you’re younger is always a good thing,” Jones said of the importance of helping others. “I mean, I got that when I was little. I looked up to those royalties at the time. So I wanted to make sure I was around the youth so that they could get the same experience that I got.”
