Three Hutchinson/Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart wrestlers qualified for the state tournament.
Junior Logan Schwanz will make a return trip to the state tournament after winning the Section 3AA title at 127 pounds. Schwanz won the section title at 113 pounds last year.
Schwanz finished third in last year’s state tournament, and he will be looking for more this year.
The Tigers also had two section runners-up, with Raydon Bipes taking second at 139 pounds and Luke Hoag second at 160.
Schwanz entered the section tournament with a 43-3 record, and he cruised to the championship, racking up pins in his first two matches before posting a 9-0 win over ben Gunlogson of Dawson-Boyd/Lac qui Parle Valley in the finals.
Bipes, a junior, was 39-10 coming into the tournament and he registered two pins and a major decision to reach the finals. There, however, he ran into top-seeded and undefeated Daniel Gunlogson of DB/LqP, who win the section title with a pin in 36 seconds.
Hoag, 46-4, received the No. 1 seed for the section tournament, but he was knocked off by No. 2 seed Tate Condezo of Marshall in the finals. That sent Hoag into a true-second mach against Adam Sandau of New London-Spicer, the No. 3 seed. Hoag emerged with a technical fall to advance to the state meet.
Hutchinson/BLHS ended up on the short end of a true-second match, as well, as Evan Peirce missed a chance to qualify for state at 215 pounds in a heartbreaking 3-0 loss to Gavin Schaefer of Marshall.
Other Hutchinson/BLHS results saw Judah Perrault take fourth at 107, Shane Kramer finish fifth at 114, Max Martin (133 pounds) and Conner Kurth (172) take sixth and Larkun Kurth take sixth at 189.
