Serving hot dog

Reggie Murphy serves up hot dogs to raise funds to bring Christmas cheer to a local family.

It’s not baseball season, but it is Christmas season.

That was good enough for 8-year-old Reggie Murphy of Hutchinson. He spent Saturday selling hot dogs to neighbors, friends and anyone else who stopped by. The sign for “Uncle Reggie’s Hot Dogs” was on display on a van at the end of a northeast Hutchinson driveway, inviting people inside to his garage restaurant.

“We thought it would be cool to not only (sell hot dogs) in the summer, but in the winter,” Murphy said.

Why?

“We adopted a family,” he said.

The family adopted by Murphy and his family is local and were offered a hand with gifts.

“One kid likes dinosaurs and other toys,” Murphy said.

Thanks to a little social media marketing, the event drew in 33 people and raised $405.
