The Heart of Minnesota Animal Shelter is expanding. HMAS president Anthony Anderberg announced recently the need for $225,000 to finish the dog facility on the shelter's campus, two miles west of Hutchinson on South Grade Road.
“Over the years we have saved enough money for phase one of the effort: the outer shell, roof and some internal elements," Anderberg said. "We have also been able to take advantage of the mild winter to have skilled tradespeople begin those efforts.
“Now we need your support to complete phase II and III of construction that includes interior infrastructure," he continued. "Specifically, plumbing, electrical, kennels, ventilation, veterinarian spaces, as well as the outdoor play areas and exercise yards. Because of the complexities to take in and rehome more than 500 animals each year safely, we expect these last two phases to cost an additional $225,000."
"Step one of the capital building campaign is, “40 days to match $40,000. This is the result of a couple of generous donors willing to match up to a maximum of $40,000.” said Amy Solinger, campaign co-chair. “What an opportunity to leverage this offer to double your money and generate $80,000. This will be a wonderful kick off for the campaign, providing second chances for pets in the new dog facility."
According to Anderberg, this is a critical time in the organization’s history as it transitions from being a small shelter helping a few hundred animals per year using borrowed facilities from McLeod County, to being a medium-sized shelter with its own space large enough to help all the area’s homeless pets and families who love them.

"We are sincerely grateful for your donations at this time," Anderberg said.
