RadioShack will close Sunday

RadioShack, a tenant in Hutchinson Mall for almost 30 years, closed it’s doors Sunday. The company announced the closing Feb. 5 as part of its bankruptcy restructuring. Little inventory remained Wednesday afternoon when this photo was taken. The shop next door, Wooden Hearts, will close at the end of February.

The bankruptcy restructuring of its Texas-based parent has led to the closing of electronics retail pioneer RadioShack, one of Hutchinson Mall’s oldest tenants. An employee told the Leader that Sunday, Feb. 15, is the local store’s last.

Fort Worth-based RadioShack announced Feb. 5 it has signed an asset purchase agreement with General Wireless, which will acquire 1,500 to 2,400 of RadioShack’s 4,000 stores. General Wireless has agreed in principle on terms with Sprint to establish a new dedicated mobility “store within a store” retail presence in up to 1,750 of the acquired RadioShack stores.
