GSL students joined region honor band
Seven Glencoe-Silver Lake students attended the Central Region Honor Band of the Minnesota Band Directors Association Jan. 12.
Those who participated from Glencoe-Silver Lake High School were Tison Werner on French horn, Madeline Manteuffel on flute, Afton Nelson on clarinet and Abagail Gruber on alto saxophone. All four students are members of the grade 9 through 10 honor band.
Glencoe-Silver Lake Junior High School students who participated were Cameron Johnson on trumpet, Alyssa Gruber on bassoon and Cavin Streufert on euphonium. All three students are members of the grade 6 through 8 honor band.

Howard Lake couple to fundraise for adoption
Adoption is expensive. To see their dream come true, Amy and Ryan Streich of Howard Lake will need $25,000 as they work with Christian Adoption Services of Fargo, North Dakota.
The couple, which has been married since Aug. 13, 2016, has scheduled a fundraiser for Saturday, Feb. 23, at Waverly Village Hall. There will be games, face painting and more.
Extra proceeds from this fundraiser or others will go to help another local family adopt.
Adoption can take six months to a few years. Amy is a teacher at Cokato Elementary, and Ryan works at a financial branch in Minneapolis.

Meeker County Board gets organized
When it gathered for its first meeting of the year on Jan. 8, the Meeker County Board looked a bit different.
Mike Housman took over as the new chairman for the board, and Bryan Larson was named vice chair. Joe Tacheny was appointed reading clerk. Newly elected Board Member Steve Schmitt was sworn in to represent District 5, which includes Eden Valley, Watkins and the townships of Forest Prairie, Manannah and Swede Grove.

Dassel-Cokato gym class welcomes all abilities
Dassel-Cokato middle school and high school students have a new opportunity for gym class with a new offering: unified physical education.
The class allows students of different physical, intellectual and social abilities to participate together. It will be offered to Developmental Adapted Physical Education students grades 5 through 12 as well as the rest of the student body.
The school is among 50 estimated to offer similar classes with help from Special Olympics Minnesota.
