The city is moving to encourage students to park in the Hutchinson High School parking lot with new signage.
At its meeting Tuesday, Hutchinson City Council approved the installation of "NO PARKING — 7 A.M. TO 3 P.M." signs on streets around the school.
Enforcement will begin when the signs are installed, which will depend on soil conditions this winter.
The school has determined that some students are not using the parking lot and instead are parking on nearby streets. It was noted at the meeting that parking permits for the school lot cost $50 per year.
With the new change, the city hopes to improve services like garbage pickup and leaf clearing.
The following streets have been selected for new signs: Alan Street Southwest, Boulder Circle Southwest, Boulder Street Southwest, Kay Street Southwest, Lakeview Lane Southwest, Larson Street Southwest, Lea Avenue Southwest, McDonald Drive Southwest, Roberts Road Southwest, School Road Southwest and Stoney Point Road Southwest.
Additionally, the council will later consider installing signs marking a loading zone in front of Two-Way Communications Inc. at 426 1st Ave. S.E., next to the dog park.
